TURTLE FOUNDATION

The Turtle Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of endangered sea turtles and their habitats. For over 200 million years, sea turtles have inhabited the world's oceans, but today all seven remaining species are threatened with extinction. Massive poaching, bycatch, and pollution of the oceans and nesting beaches by plastic waste are increasingly exacerbating the situation.

The Turtle Foundation operates conservation projects in Indonesia and on the Cape Verde island of Boa Vista. In collaboration with the local population, the organization develops concepts to better protect sea turtles. This also includes conducting environmental education and public awareness campaigns to raise awareness of the threats these majestic creatures face.

The mission of the Turtle Foundation is to contribute to the conservation of sea turtles by collaborating with local communities at their project sites. The goal is to create a future in which both sea turtles and humans can thrive. The organization's vision is a future where sea turtles and their habitats are sustainably protected, healthy, and safe from the threat of extinction and destruction.

The Turtle Foundation actively advocates for environmental protection and the promotion of sustainable practices. By involving the local population in its projects, the organization not only promotes the protection of sea turtles but also the development of sustainable livelihoods for the local people. Volunteers have the opportunity to actively participate in the protection of the Loggerhead turtles on Boa Vista during the nesting season from June to October.

The Turtle Foundation shares its insights and experiences in organizational development through partnerships with various stakeholders. A current example is the collaboration with Stone Soup Consulting to develop recommendations for tripartite partnerships. This initiative aims to enrich the philanthropic community through the exchange of lessons and insights.

The Turtle Foundation is also committed to social justice and gender equality. It advocates for a world that is diverse, inclusive, and equitable, where differences are valued.

The work of the Turtle Foundation was featured in the travel documentary "Experiencing Cape Verde" on hr-fernsehen, where filmmakers visited the Camp Boa Esperança on Boa Vista and documented the organization's work.
