FELD

The FELD Theater for Young Audiences, located at Gleditschstr. 5 in Berlin, is an innovative and interdisciplinary cultural center that understands itself as a "Third Place" in the sense of "Home Away from Home." It serves as a playful meeting point for the performing arts and promotes community building by connecting people from different groups and social backgrounds.

• Theater Productions and Guest Performances: FELD is both a production venue and a stage for artists from Berlin and cooperates nationwide and across Europe. It showcases works of various aesthetics, particularly in dance and performance.
• Participatory Projects: The theater places special emphasis on participatory strategies and offers low-barrier artistic arrangements as well as accessible programs.
• Preschool and School Performances: FELD offers special performances for preschools and schools, often in combination with educational programs.
• Community Engagement: The theater is closely connected to the neighborhood and offers intergenerational workshops, such as a dance workshop, and operates the "Coffee Cult" on the ground floor, where the community can meet.

The main mission of FELD is to create an inclusive and intergenerational platform for artistic research and development. It aims to enable participation from the very beginning and to contribute to democracy work for the future. The values of the theater include openness, inclusivity, participation, and networking with other theaters, social actors, and local educational and youth institutions.

FELD artistically addresses topics such as the environment, climate, and sustainability and promotes awareness of life in urban nature. It emphasizes gentle handling of plants and animals and interest in sustainability through aesthetic means. The theater is also involved in local initiatives, such as greening backyards and attracting bees, to make the neighborhood a greener and more vibrant place.

The FELD Theater has existed since 2018 in the building that was previously used by the puppet theater ensemble Hans Wurst Nachfahren. After a successful citizens' initiative that collected 15,754 signatures, the theater was able to continue. Today, FELD works with a core group of established artists and remains open to new developments. The theater recently received the Theater Prize of the Federal Government 2024 in the category "Independent Production Houses," highlighting its significance and quality[1][3][4].
