About the Reporting and Information Center for Antiziganism
editThe Reporting and Information Center for Antiziganism (MIA) is a civil society organization dedicated to nationwide monitoring of antiziganism. MIA provides a platform for recording, documenting, and evaluating antiziganistic incidents in Germany. The organization enables affected individuals to report incidents anonymously and confidentially, thereby making discrimination visible and effectively combating antiziganism.
Mission and Values
editMIA advocates for the interests of those affected by antiziganism and is committed to fighting discrimination and promoting equal opportunities. The organization promotes the social participation of Sinti and Roma and works closely with civil society institutions and anti-discrimination agencies. A particular focus is on networking and empowering those affected to encourage their active participation in society.
Services and Initiatives
editMIA offers a variety of services, including the collection and analysis of data on antiziganistic incidents. The federal office in Berlin and the regional reporting offices accept incidents via phone, electronically, and in person. MIA also provides awareness-raising measures and empowerment offerings such as workshops and regional conferences aimed at both civil society organizations and affected individuals as well as state actors.
Sustainability Goals
editMIA aims to raise awareness of antiziganism and improve support for those affected. Through systematic documentation and evaluation of incidents, it seeks to highlight existing deficiencies in the regulatory system. MIA aims to fill the gaps in regulatory structures and establish a functional, independent reporting and information center for antiziganism. The organization plans to establish additional regional reporting offices in cooperation with the respective state governments to ensure sustainable combat against antiziganism.
Current Challenges
editDespite its important work, MIA faces financial challenges. Cuts in the federal budget threaten the existence of the reporting center, which could jeopardize the continuation of its work. Nevertheless, MIA remains committed to strengthening the trust of those affected and informing the public about the importance of combating antiziganism.
MIA is an indispensable actor in the fight against antiziganism in Germany and provides affected individuals with an important point of contact for support and advice. Through its work, MIA contributes to the consolidation of democratic values and the promotion of respectful coexistence in society.
