"Stiftung Schüler Helfen Leben" (SHL) is Germany's largest youth-led humanitarian organization, with decades of experience in (post-)conflict regions. Its core mission is to foster youth projects focused on education, encounter, democracy, and engagement. SHL empowers young people to actively contribute to democracy and peaceful coexistence in challenging environments, particularly in Southeast Europe, the context of the Syrian conflict, and in response to the Russian aggression against Ukraine. A key initiative is "Der Soziale Tag," an annual event where approximately 60,000 students across Germany volunteer for a day, donating their earnings to SHL's projects. The organization supports partner organizations in seven countries and operates "Shelter Ukraine" locations for psychosocial support.
