Quarteera e. V.

Quarteera e.V. is the first nationwide association in Germany that has been specifically advocating for the concerns and visibility of Russian-speaking LGBTQ+ people in Germany since its founding in April 2011. The name of the association is a play on words derived from "queer," "art," and "quartier."

The main mission of Quarteera is to counteract the multiple discrimination faced by Russian-speaking LGBTQ+ people who are disadvantaged due to their origin, sexual, and gender identity. The association promotes awareness of LGBTQ+ issues within the Russian-speaking community in Germany and supports the integration and visibility of this group[2][3][4].

• Educational Work: Quarteera offers various educational programs to support Russian-speaking LGBTQ+ migrants in their coming out and to combat prejudices within the community. This includes workshops, seminars, and the publication of informational brochures about the situation of LGBTQ+ rights in Russia and the successor states of the Soviet Union[2][3].
• Counseling and Support: The association provides professional psychological and legal counseling and assists individuals in applying for asylum in Germany due to discrimination based on their sexual orientation[2][3].
• Demonstrations and Protests: Quarteera regularly organizes demonstrations and protests in collaboration with German and international LGBT organizations to fight for the rights of LGBTQ+ people in Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union[2][3].
• Cultural and Social Activities: The association hosts annual "Rainbow Flashmobs" on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia and supports cultural events that empower the Russian-speaking LGBTQ+ community[2][3].

Quarteera is engaged in various sustainable projects and initiatives:

• Model Project "Разнообразие heißt Vielfalt": Since September 2019, Quarteera has been a cooperation partner in this project aimed at professionalizing Russian-speaking multipliers and promoting and strengthening the queer Russian-speaking community in Germany[3].
• Support for Refugees: Quarteera has been particularly supporting LGBTIQ* refugees in their integration into Germany since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022 and advocates for their specific needs[5].

Quarteera condemns the illegal war of aggression by Russia against Ukraine and advocates for the rights and well-being of LGBTIQ* individuals in war zones. The association also monitors the situation in Belarus and condemns the political repression and human rights violations in that country[5].

Quarteera e.V. is a central actor in the fight for the rights and visibility of Russian-speaking LGBTQ+ people in Germany and tirelessly advocates for a more inclusive and just society.
