editMOTTE, founded in 1976, is a central neighborhood and cultural center in Ottensen, Hamburg. Since its inception, MOTTE has accompanied and shaped the transformation of the neighborhood through a variety of cultural, educational, and social initiatives.
Key Products and Services
edit- Cultural Programs and Course Offerings: MOTTE offers extensive cultural programs and course offerings for children, teenagers, and adults, including room rentals for various events.
- Culture and Education: MOTTE connects extracurricular learning opportunities with schools, artists, and experts. Interdisciplinary and international projects are implemented in cooperation with various partners.
- Youth Work: MOTTE operates an open meeting place, offers future planning, counseling, school assistance, holiday projects, international youth exchanges, and workshop offerings. There are close collaborations with schools and extracurricular organizations.
- Workshops and Community Projects: MOTTE has 10 workshops with open hours, a beekeeping and chicken farm, as well as a community garden. Volunteer initiatives like the Kulturcafé Allltona and the Cooking Social Club organize neighborhood projects.
- Childcare: MOTTE offers childcare that is adapted to the requirements of all-day school development and cares for school children as well as children from 2 years old.
Mission and Values
editMOTTE is committed to promoting and strengthening cultural education, media competence, and educational work. It advocates for the development of the neighborhood and initiates networks and new partnerships. MOTTE is regularly recognized for its exemplary and innovative project work and has developed into an idea agency that sets impulses for the community.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editMOTTE is engaged in numerous sustainable and social initiatives:
- Renovation and Reconstruction Projects: MOTTE was renovated and rebuilt from 2020 to 2023, funded by the federal funding program "Renovation of Municipal Facilities in the Areas of Sports, Youth, and Culture" and the Soziokultur Fund as part of NEUSTART KULTUR.
- International Partnerships: MOTTE conducts international youth exchanges and projects, such as the "Sound in the Silence" project, which brought together young people from Hamburg and Poland.
- Environmental and Community Projects: The community garden and the Grünanteil.Net initiative are examples of MOTTE's environmentally and community-oriented activities.
Current Developments
editMOTTE remains active and innovative even in current times. Despite the challenges posed by the Corona pandemic, the team continued project planning and counseling and organized itself online. MOTTE continues to be supported by various funding programs to pursue its mission and goals.
