About Lause Berlin
editLause Berlin is a unique project located in the historic buildings of the former glass factory at Lausitzer Straße 10 and the adjacent residential building number 11. These buildings house a vibrant community of over 150 users and tenants, forming a diverse mix of craft businesses, freelancers, families, shared living communities, artists, creatives, as well as community-oriented and political organizations. Prominent organizations include the Initiative Schwarze Menschen in Deutschland, the antifascist press archive and educational center berlin, the Initiative #leavenoonebehind, and the Gen-ethische Netzwerk.
Since August 31, 2022, the buildings have been managed by the cooperative "Eine für Alle" (EfA), in close collaboration with the house association Lause lebt e.V. This takeover is the result of years of commitment against the conversion of the commercial courtyard into a luxury property and the associated displacement of long-term users. The goal is to preserve affordable workshops, offices, studios, and apartments in a neighborhood shaped by gentrification.
The mission of Lause Berlin is to be a testing ground for communal living and working models as well as innovative business approaches. The diversity in the house provides fertile ground for unconventional ideas and promotes social and societal innovations. Through cultural and political events, as well as the freely usable neighborhood space, Lause Berlin contributes to a solidary and vibrant neighborhood.
Sustainability and social responsibility are central values of Lause Berlin. The cooperative aims to preserve and expand the space for political and social initiatives, art and craft, studios and workshops, as well as for freelancers and residential tenants. The LauseRia, a neighborhood space, is open to all users and neighbors and offers a kitchen, a small conference room, and an event space with various usage options. The use is free, but donations are welcome.
Lause Berlin relies on the support of the community to exist as a solidary place. Interested individuals can become investing members at "Eine für Alle" and thus contribute to preserving the Berlin mix of art, craft, and social engagement.
With the slogan "Forever Lause – Lause stays!" Lause Berlin advocates for the preservation and further development of a lively and diverse neighborhood that offers space for creative and social expression.
