    About Us

korientation e.V. is a network focused on promoting and increasing the visibility of Asian-German perspectives in Germany. Founded in 2008 as a "migrant self-organization of German-Koreans," the association has developed over the years into a comprehensive network for all Asian-Germans and Asians living in Germany.

    Mission and Values

The main mission of korientation is to make the diverse realities of Asian-Germans visible and conscious, thereby countering racism and exclusionary practices. The association strives to strengthen the cultural and political self-representation of Asian-Germans to positively influence the development of a diverse German society. korientation also addresses discrimination related to sexual orientation, gender, or social background within the communities and promotes an intersectional approach[1].

    Key Products and Services

korientation works project-oriented at the intersections of culture, media, and science. Activities include workshops, conferences, publications, film screenings, readings, performances, and exhibitions. A prominent example is the Asian Film Festival Berlin, organized by the association. Other important projects include the framework project "Model Students of Integration?" and the projects MEGA (Media and Empowerment for German Asians) and RADAR (Resources from/for Asian Germans against anti-Asian racism), which address issues such as migration, transculturality, gender, and belonging[1][2].

    Sustainability Goals and Initiatives

korientation is committed to creating a community-building and cross-community platform that promotes exchange and networking at various levels. Through networking activities and the establishment of a platform, the association aims to challenge racist stereotypes and exclusionary practices and to broaden the perspective on the diverse realities of Black, People of Color (BPoC). The MEGA project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) and the Senate Department for Integration, Labor and Social Affairs of Berlin, is an important step in the content-related and structural development of the association[1].

    Cooperations and Partnerships

korientation cooperates with a variety of partners, including cultural policy groups, self-organizations, museums, universities, and activists. Cooperation partners include, among others, the new society for fine arts (nGbK), the House of World Cultures, the Ballhaus Naunynstrasse, and the Museum am Rothenbaum in Hamburg. The association is also a member of organizations such as the Migration Council Berlin and the Federal Conference of Migrant Organizations[1].

    Current Activities

korientation celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2023 with the festival "zu(sammen)künfte," which highlighted important milestones in the association's history in an exhibition. The association continues its work with regular events, workshops, and networking meetings to strengthen the community and combat anti-Asian racism. Additionally, brochures and publications summarizing the results of the political education work and research of the association are regularly published[2][3].
