United4Rescue is a social alliance dedicated to supporting civil sea rescue. Founded by people from the Protestant Church, the non-profit organization operates independently and is funded solely by donations from individuals and organizations. With over 740 alliance partners, United4Rescue brings together a variety of actors who are committed to preventing the drowning of people in the Mediterranean.

United4Rescue supports civil sea rescue through financial resources that are provided in a straightforward and cross-organizational manner. An outstanding example of this support is the involvement in the purchase and conversion of the rescue ship Sea-Watch 4, which has been made available to the organization Sea-Watch. Although United4Rescue is not the owner of the ship and has no influence on its operational deployment, the alliance remains closely connected with the supported ships and organizations.

Mission and Values

The main mission of United4Rescue is to save lives and prevent drowning in the Mediterranean. The alliance stands for an anti-fascist attitude and rejects all forms of violence. Dehumanizing attitudes have no place in this alliance. United4Rescue advocates for humanity and human rights and considers sea rescue a duty and a human right.

Sustainability Goals and Initiatives

United4Rescue aims to end the criminalization of civil sea rescue and strengthen legal security for all non-governmental organizations active in the Mediterranean. By supporting lawsuits against politically motivated port state controls, as in the case of Sea-Watch 4, the alliance advocates for the rights of sea rescue organizations. These initiatives aim to ensure that civil rescue ships are no longer subjected to arbitrary detentions.

Social Engagement

The alliance unites a variety of organizations, including the German Trade Union Confederation, Doctors Without Borders, World Vision Germany, and many church and Muslim associations. Companies like Ben & Jerry’s also support the mission of United4Rescue. This broad support shows that sea rescue is a concern of society as a whole.

United4Rescue is a symbol of a civil society that no longer stands idly by while people die in the Mediterranean. The alliance stands for solidarity and the conviction that no one should drown.
