Transport Environment

Transport & Environment (T&E) is Europe's leading organization advocating for clean transport and energy. Since its founding in 1990, T&E has significantly contributed to shaping major European climate and environmental legislation. This includes the establishment of the world's largest CO2 market for aviation and the EU agreement to ban the sale of new combustion engines for cars and vans by 2035.

T&E focuses on a variety of issues affecting the transport sector, including cars, trucks, vans, buses, airplanes, ships, and rail transport. Additionally, the organization is engaged in areas such as battery technology, energy, air quality, sustainable finance, and climate instruments. T&E provides in-depth analyses and reports that help policymakers take the best political actions to reduce emissions and promote clean energies.

The mission of T&E is to advocate for an affordable, emissions-free transport system that benefits both people and the planet. The organization relies on scientific insights and credible research to effect political change. T&E is politically independent and works with a network of experts to ensure that all published information is accurate and reliable.

T&E is committed to the decarbonization of European transport by promoting the transition from fossil fuels to sustainable electrification and clean fuels. The organization rejects false solutions such as e-fuels for cars and biofuels, which are often more harmful to the planet than the fossil fuels they are meant to replace. Instead, T&E supports the use of renewable electricity and advocates for strict sustainability criteria in the use of renewable hydrogen and synthetic fuels, which should only be used where direct electrification is not possible, such as in aviation and shipping.

T&E works closely with 51 member organizations in 24 countries across Europe, representing more than 3.5 million people. The organization is part of the Green 10, a group of European environmental NGOs, and is engaged in various alliances and working groups to advance electrification and sustainability in the transport sector.
