editThe Malteser Stiftung, founded in 2003 by the Malteser Order and the Malteser Hilfsdienst e.V., is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting social engagement and improving human life. Established with an endowment of 100,000 euros, the foundation provides a platform for donors, supporting members, and interested parties to sustainably implement their ideas of social commitment.

editThe Malteser Stiftung enables individuals to establish their own foundation under its umbrella, whether as a trust foundation or as a legally independent foundation. In addition, it offers various forms of endowment, including real estate and donor loans, as well as the opportunity to donate through a will. The foundation supports its donors with comprehensive advice and management to ensure that the transferred assets are used effectively and sustainably.
Mission and Values
editThe main mission of the Malteser Stiftung is to put the returns from the endowed assets in the service of improving human life and alleviating human suffering. The foundation sees itself as a community of like-minded individuals who are not discouraged by the need in the world and contribute with their foundations to making the world a better place for those in need. Transparency, integrity, and responsible management of entrusted funds are central values of the foundation.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editThe Malteser Stiftung is involved in a variety of projects that are both nationally and internationally oriented. The supported projects include training hospice volunteers, supporting elderly visiting services, and providing medical and pastoral services for those in need. Internationally, the focus is on improving water and sanitation, hygiene, and medical care in around 24 countries. The foundation is committed to both long-term development cooperation and emergency aid after disasters.
Commitment and Achievements
editSince its founding, the Malteser Stiftung has gained over 1,000 donors who have contributed to the foundation. Around 100 donors have established their own trust foundations or foundation funds. In total, over 40 million euros have already flowed into the foundation and its trust foundations, which are invested in national and international aid projects. In 2020 alone, over 960,000 euros in foundation returns could be used for aid projects.
The Malteser Stiftung is a member of the Federal Association of German Foundations and holder of the quality seal "certified foundation trustee." It is regularly audited by a recognized auditing firm to ensure compliance with the highest standards.
