Klimawende

"Klimawende from below" is an innovative project supported by the organizations Umweltinstitut München, BürgerBegehren Klimaschutz, and Mehr Demokratie. Our mission is to strengthen local climate protection initiatives through the use of direct democracy and actively combat climate change at the municipal level.

• Climate Citizen Initiatives: We support and advise on the initiation and implementation of citizen initiatives to enforce local climate protection measures such as the expansion of renewable energies, the phase-out of coal, the transformation of transportation, and the promotion of green electricity supply.
• Klimawende Handbook: A comprehensive handbook that contains inspiring success stories and practical guides to successfully implement local climate citizen initiatives.
• Online Coaching and Consulting: We offer free online coaching and strategic consulting for the planning and execution of Klimawende campaigns.
• Networking and Knowledge Transfer: Through email distribution lists, local newsletters, a cloud with helpful documents, and online seminars, we promote networking and knowledge transfer within the Klimawende community.

Our main mission is to empower citizens to participate self-determined and directly in the climate policy of their cities and municipalities. We rely on the strength of local initiatives to achieve ambitious climate protection, even when this is hindered at the federal level. Our values are based on the belief that direct democracy and citizen participation are crucial to creating livable and climate-neutral cities.

• Energy and Mobility Transition: We promote measures such as the expansion of solar systems, the conversion of municipal utilities to green electricity, the expansion of public transport, and the reduction of car traffic.
• Climate-Neutral Municipalities: Through our initiatives, we aim to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in municipalities while improving the quality of life.
• Community Building: We support the formation and networking of local Klimawende initiatives to create a broad and engaged network that drives climate protection forward.

Through our work, we send clear signals to state and federal politics to strengthen climate protection at all levels and establish a comprehensive Klimawende movement.
