
The Julius Kühn-Institut (JKI), Federal Research Centre for Cultivated Plants, is Germany's central scientific institution for research on cultivated plants. Established in 2008 under the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), JKI conducts applied and basic research across all facets of crop production. Its mission is to ensure the health and quality of cultivated plants, secure agricultural yields, and promote sustainable practices. With approximately 1,200 employees across 10 locations, including its main site in Quedlinburg, JKI provides scientific advice to the German government and significantly contributes to SDGs 2, 15, and 13.
