Ingenieure ohne Grenzen e.V. (IOG) is a non-profit and independent organization for development cooperation, founded in 2003 in Marburg. The association aims to improve the living conditions of needy and disadvantaged people worldwide, especially in the Global South, through the application and transfer of engineering knowledge in the long term.

IOG focuses on technical development cooperation with a focus on the following areas:

• Water and Sanitation: Ensuring basic supply of clean water and hygienic sanitation facilities.
• Renewable Energies: Implementation of sustainable energy sources.
• Construction and Bridge Building: Establishment and maintenance of infrastructure projects such as bridges and buildings.
• Education and Domestic Work: Conducting educational programs, especially in the fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Global Learning, and Integration[1][3][5].

The mission of IOG is to support people whose infrastructural basic needs are threatened by need or poverty, regardless of their skin color, worldview, or religion. The association advocates for a society in which every person can participate equally and self-determined. IOG operates on the principle of "help for self-help" and places great importance on sustainable, needs-oriented, and partnership-based support for the local population[1][2][4].

IOG is committed to developing and implementing sustainable solutions. These include:

• Knowledge Transfer: The association promotes the exchange of engineering knowledge between experts and local partners.
• Regional Materials: IOG uses locally available materials as much as possible and adapts solutions to local conditions.
• Voluntary Engagement: Around 900 volunteers and over 4,400 supporting members significantly contribute to project work, fundraising, and public relations.
• Global and Local: In addition to international work, IOG also operates effective projects in Germany, particularly in the areas of education and integration[1][3][4].

The association is organized into over 30 regional groups in Germany and has a national office in Berlin. IOG works in eight competence groups on specific issues of development cooperation and is part of the international alliance Engineers without Borders international[1][3][4].
