EUROfusion

EUROfusion is a European consortium dedicated to the research and development of fusion energy. Founded on October 9, 2014, EUROfusion brings together leading research institutions from 26 EU member states as well as Switzerland, Norway, and the United Kingdom. The consortium is funded under the Euratom program of the European Commission and aims to lay the foundations for future fusion power plants.

EUROfusion supports and funds a variety of research activities aimed at realizing fusion energy. Key projects include preparations for the ITER experiments and the development of DEMO, a demonstration power plant intended to succeed ITER. Additionally, EUROfusion promotes education and training in the field of fusion research through special scholarship programs such as the EUROfusion Bernard Bigot Researcher Grant and the EUROfusion Engineering Grant.

The mission of EUROfusion is to pave the way for fusion power plants that provide CO2-free energy and complement other energy sources. The consortium envisions a world where fusion power plants supply the electricity grid with clean energy. EUROfusion places great importance on collaboration, innovation, and fostering a diverse and inclusive research environment.

EUROfusion is committed to the development of sustainable energy sources. Fusion energy is considered nearly emission-free and utilizes nearly unlimited fuel resources, making it a promising solution for future energy supply. The consortium works closely with international partners such as ITER and Fusion for Energy to address the technological challenges of fusion energy and ensure the safety and efficiency of fusion reactors.

EUROfusion has recently restructured its research and development departments to optimize scientific and technical operations. With a budget of over one billion euros for the period 2021 to 2025, EUROfusion is well-positioned to make significant progress in fusion research and realize the vision of a clean and sustainable energy future.
