BZSL e.V. - A Self-Help Organization for Inclusion and Self-Determination
editAbout Us
editThe BZSL e.V. (Federal Center for Self-Determined Living) is a volunteer-run self-help organization founded in 1990 in the spirit of the self-determined living movement in Germany. Our mission is to provide comprehensive support and advice to people with disabilities and/or chronic illnesses, as well as their relatives and friends.
Key Products and Services
edit- Advice and Support: We offer advice based on the peer-to-peer principle (affected individuals advise affected individuals). This includes individual consultations, group meetings, and public information events on topics such as sustainable living, healthy nutrition, and social participation[1][2].
- Specialized Consulting Projects: We have several consulting projects, including the specialized office for refugees with disabilities, chronic illnesses, trauma, and the elderly. These projects provide orientation, support with applications and dealing with authorities, as well as psychosocial counseling and accompaniment[1][3].
- Workshops and Events: We organize workshops, lectures, and public events on current topics such as climate protection, inclusion, and resilience. Examples include the online lecture "Kundalini Yoga for People with Disabilities" and inclusive birdwatching tours[2].
Mission and Values
editOur goal is for every person to have the opportunity to participate in social life in a self-determined and inclusive manner and to help shape society. We advocate for equal human dignity and protection against discrimination, especially in migration policy. Our work is based on the principles of self-determination, inclusion, and participation[1][2].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
edit- Sustainability and Resilience: We have developed a sustainability compass that enables everyone to live more sustainably. Our group meetings and events regularly address topics such as climate change, sustainability, and crisis management[2].
- Inclusive Projects: Our photo exhibitions and other cultural events aim to make the experiences and perspectives of people with disabilities visible and to promote social inclusion[2].
Current Initiatives
edit- Support for Refugees: We offer specialized advice and support for refugees with disabilities, chronic illnesses, and trauma, including the provision of interpreters and support with social law claims[1][3].
- Empowerment and Self-Representation: Through our peer-level initiatives, we strengthen the personal self-esteem and self-representation of those affected by facilitating conversations with peers[3].
The BZSL e.V. is a central point of contact for people seeking self-determination, inclusion, and support, and tirelessly advocates for the improvement of living conditions and social participation of people with disabilities.
