Arbeit und Leben: An Initiative for Democracy and Social Justice

Who we are: Arbeit und Leben is an institution for political youth and adult education, supported by the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) and the Volkshochschulen. It was founded to strengthen democracy after the Second World War and to improve the position of employees in society and at work[1][2].

    Key Products and Services:

    • Educational Offers: Workshops, seminars, international meetings and projects on topics such as work and interest representation, co-determination, economics, demography, integration, democracy development and globalization[1][3].
    • Target Groups: Employees, trainees, migrants, senior citizens, young people and works and staff councils[1][2].

    Mission and Values:

Our goal is to strengthen democracy through political education and to promote a just, supportive society. We are committed to social justice, equal opportunities and human rights[3].

    Sustainability Goals and Initiatives:

    • Democracy Promotion: We are working to ensure that all people can participate in society on an equal footing[3].
    • Projects against Right-Wing Extremism: Initiatives such as ReConnect aim to combat conspiracy narratives and right-wing extremism[3].
    • Integration and Diversity: We promote the integration of migrants and are committed to a diverse society[2][3].

Arbeit und Leben is present nationwide with state working groups and over 120 local institutions, reaching hundreds of thousands of people every year[1]. Our work is based on the principles of social justice, equal opportunities and solidarity to promote a democratic culture of participation[1][2].
