As a software tester, you are responsible for ensuring the quality of software applications. This includes testing software products to ensure that they meet requirements and function without errors. The work of a software tester includes creating test plans, carrying out functional tests, performance tests and security checks. In addition, testers document the results of their tests and work closely with developers to resolve identified issues.
To work as a software tester, you generally need a degree in computer science or a comparable qualification. Software testers often have a degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field. Many companies prefer applicants with experience in software testing or relevant certifications (e.g. ISTQB).
Software testers have a wide range of career opportunities. After a few years of experience, you can often progress to Junior QA Manager or QA Manager. Specialization in certain test methods or technologies, such as test automation or security testing, are also possible career paths. Software testers also have the opportunity to work in related areas such as software development or project management.
