About ZK/U Berlin - Center for Art and Urbanistics
editThe ZK/U Berlin - Center for Art and Urbanistics is an innovative production site that offers artistic and research-based residencies. Since its opening in 2012 in the Berlin district of Moabit, on the edge of the West Harbor, the ZK/U has served as an interface between art production and urban research. It provides artists, researchers, and architects with a platform to connect local practice with global discourse, thereby developing new perspectives on urban challenges.
Key Products and Services
editThe ZK/U offers residencies ranging from two to twelve months, allowing participants to work at the intersection of art and urban research. In addition to the residencies, the ZK/U regularly organizes events such as "OPENHAUS," where artists present their work in open studios. Other formats include the "GÜTERMARKT," a monthly summer market, and "SPEISEKINO," which combines independent films with culinary experiences.
Mission and Values
editThe mission of the ZK/U is to contribute to urban development through artistic and research-based projects. It promotes exchange between different disciplines and cultures and advocates for sustainable and equitable urban development. The values of the ZK/U are based on openness, collaboration, and the promotion of creativity as a means to solve urban problems.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editSustainability is a central component of the ZK/U's work. Projects like "ClimArt" aim to raise awareness of urban climate adaptation and contribute to the resilience of cities through artistic interventions. The "Haus der Materialisierung" is another example of the ZK/U's commitment to circular economy and sustainable practices in Berlin.
Current Projects and Initiatives
editThe ZK/U is currently in a phase of expansion, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. This expansion will enable the center to increase its capacity and provide even more space for creative and collaborative projects. Ongoing projects include "Active CITY(zens)," which develops new cultural programs to rediscover public spaces, and "Beeholder - Beecoin," a decentralized autonomous organization that deals with the self-governance of non-human actors.
The ZK/U Berlin is a vibrant place of exchange and innovation that brings together artists, researchers, and the community to work together towards a sustainable and creative future.
