editThe ZAK is a joint municipal institution of the city and district of Kaiserslautern and functions as the central facility for waste management in this region. It was established through a change in legal form of the former Zweckverband Abfallwirtschaft Kaiserslautern (Special Purpose Association for Waste Management Kaiserslautern), whose roots go back to the founding of the Deponiezweckverband Kaiserslautern (Landfill Special Purpose Association Kaiserslautern) in 1976. The ZAK started its work on January 1, 2011[2][5].
