Treedom

Treedom, founded in 2010 in Florence by Federico Garcea and Tommaso Speroni, is a social enterprise with the mission to create sustainable ecosystems while supporting local communities. The foundation was inspired by the observation of deforestation in Cameroon and has since developed into a global project.

Treedom enables both individuals and companies to plant trees in various regions of the world through an online platform. The tree plantings can be done individually, via subscription, or as part of corporate forests. The company offers various models, including the one-time purchase of trees, monthly tree subscriptions, and B2B solutions for establishing corporate forests[2][4].

The mission of Treedom is to create sustainable ecosystems and support thousands of people through the funding of agroforestry projects. The company places great importance on the sustainable use of resources, the strengthening of local ecosystems, and the protection of biodiversity. By planting native species and reintroducing specific plant varieties after severe deforestation, it ensures that the new trees provide maximum benefits for both people and nature[3].

Treedom has already planted over 4 million trees in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Italy and has been part of the Certified B Corporations since 2014, a network for intensive social and environmental engagement. The trees are cared for directly by local people and have both ecological and social impact. Through the plantings, CO₂ is sequestered, and local communities benefit from the yield of the trees, leading to income diversification and increased productivity[1][3].

Treedom has modernized its digital platform by transitioning to a headless commerce system based on commercetools. This migration allows for more efficient management of custom processes, handling multiple markets, currencies, and price lists, and supporting the company's expansion[2].

A central aspect of Treedom is the support of local communities. The trees and their fruits belong to the local people, who are supported through training and seed funding. This enables small farmers to diversify their income and initiate long-term initiatives that bring social benefits to the communities[3].
