editKrisenchat is a nationwide, free, and anonymous psychosocial counseling service that has been available 24/7 via live chat, WhatsApp, and SMS since May 2020. The organization provides initial help and counseling for children, adolescents, and young adults in acute crisis situations, including issues such as suicidality, depression, and therapy-related matters. Additionally, krisenchat has been offering special counseling for people affected by the war in Ukraine in Ukrainian and Russian since March 2022.
Main Mission and Values
editThe main mission of krisenchat is to support young people in need in a situation-appropriate and empathetic manner. The organization places great importance on transparency, confidentiality, and providing low-threshold access to psychosocial counseling. Through their work, they aim to improve the psychosocial health of young people and take preventive action against mental illnesses. So far, over 400 counselors have already helped in more than 80,000 consultations.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editKrisenchat operates as a non-profit organization and is committed to fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, particularly in the area of mental health. The organization is funded by a variety of partners, including BARMER, Techniker Krankenkasse, Beisheim Foundation, Siemens Foundation, Terre des hommes, and Robert Bosch Foundation. Additionally, krisenchat receives a two-year grant from the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ), highlighting the close collaboration between civil society and the state.
Krisenchat offers companies the opportunity to take on a krisenchat sponsorship as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy to support the counseling of children and adolescents and advocate for the mental health of young people in Germany.
Current Developments and Recognition
editThe work of krisenchat has been recognized through the funding from BMFSFJ, which represents an important step in addressing mental illnesses. The organization works closely with ProjectTogether to support financial planning and networking with government institutions. Despite the state funding, krisenchat remains dependent on the support of volunteers, companies, foundations, and private donors to further expand and improve the counseling services.
