Werner-von-Siemens Centre for Industry and Science e.V.
The
Werner-von-Siemens Centre for Industry and Science (WvSC)
editAbout Us
editThe Werner-von-Siemens Centre for Industry and Science (WvSC) is an innovative industry and science campus located in the future-oriented Siemensstadt Square in Berlin. Here, we unite science, industry, SMEs, and start-ups in an open partner network to develop future-relevant technologies and new work cultures.
Mission and Values
editOur main mission is to enable transformative research and actively shape the change in industry and society through social and technological innovations. We see ourselves as a real laboratory that not only produces top-notch research results in future-relevant technologies but also promotes social innovations in the areas of "Education" and "Design of Collaboration (New Work)."
Key Products and Services
edit- Research Projects: The focus is on future technologies such as digitalization, additive manufacturing, and new materials. Current projects concentrate on electric drives, high-temperature applications, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO)[2][4].
- Educational Offerings: We offer innovative educational programs, such as the online edutainment course "Xpert4AM" for additive manufacturing and workshops for children and young people as part of the "MINT-Heldinnen" project[5].
- Network and Cooperation: The WvSC enables close collaboration between science and industry by providing researchers with regular access to production sites. This includes partnerships with companies such as Siemens AG, Siemens Energy, Fraunhofer Institutes, and the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM)[2][4].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
edit- Environmentally Friendly Technologies: A central goal is the development of sustainable additive manufacturing processes, particularly for high-temperature applications and the maintenance of gas turbines. This focuses on reducing material waste and increasing efficiency[4].
- Resource Conservation: The projects focus on developing recycling strategies for additive processes to reduce material costs and environmental impacts[4].
- Social Innovation: We are working on designing new work methods and structures as well as on qualification and leadership culture to support the social aspect of industrial transformation[5].
Location and Infrastructure
editThe WvSC is based in Berlin and benefits from its proximity to production sites, enabling intensive collaboration between science and practice. The campus includes co-working spaces, event and real laboratory areas that are used for creative events and the implementation of research results into practice[3][5].
Future Orientation
editWe strive to strengthen Germany as an innovation and industrial location by leveraging research, education, and networks to drive industrial transformation. Through close collaboration with strong partners and the promotion of innovations, we aim to generate value and impact and positively shape the future of industry[5].
