editSELKO operates several central facilities, including the SEKIS, the central Berlin self-help contact and information center, as well as the district self-help contact point in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. In addition, SELKO supports the Competence Center for Care Support, which coordinates the 12 contact points for care engagement in Berlin and provides services for the care and daily relief of those in need of assistance. These facilities offer a platform for exchange, networking, and support for self-help groups and family caregivers.
Mission and Values
editThe main mission of SELKO is to promote and strengthen self-help in Berlin. The association is committed to ensuring that people in need of support have access to the necessary resources and networks. SELKO places great importance on social participation, solidarity, and the promotion of self-initiative. The association works closely with the Berlin health insurance companies and their associations to implement self-help promotion in accordance with § 20 h SGB V.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editSELKO is actively engaged in social and political stability and the strengthening of social infrastructure in Berlin. In times of political and economic challenges, the association advocates for the funding and support of social projects not to be cut. SELKO is a member of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband and the Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft Selbsthilfegruppen e.V., which underscores its commitment to promoting self-help and patient participation.
Cooperations and Funding
editThe association cooperates with the Association for Social-Cultural Work to realize the funding concept for district centers. SELKO is funded by the Senate Department for Labor, Social Affairs, Equality, Diversity, and Anti-Discrimination, as well as the Senate Department for Science, Health, and Care. In addition, the statutory health insurance companies and their associations in Berlin support the work of SELKO.
