UNICEF: A global mission for the well-being of children
editUNICEF, the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund, is one of the world's best-known and most far-reaching social welfare organizations. Founded in 1946 to protect children after World War II, UNICEF now works in 192 countries and territories to help the world's most needy children.
Main mission and values
editUNICEF's main mission is to defend children's rights, meet their basic needs and increase their chances of reaching their full potential, and this is supported by UNICEF's vision to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and the achievement of peace and social progress as enshrined in the UN Charter.
UNICEF is guided by five core values:
- Care: UNICEF cares for children, young people and mothers in all contexts and ensures that this care is also felt in the working relationships within the organisation.
- Respect: Effective programs require that the recipients of support be understood and respected, and that colleagues at all levels receive the same respect that you want for yourself.
- Integrity: UNICEF's reputation depends on all staff acting honestly and transparently and setting the highest standards.
- Trust: Trust in communities and among employees is essential to provide effective programs and services.
- Accountability: Public and private donors as well as children and vulnerable people worldwide have the right to know how UNICEF programs are carried out, resources are deployed and results are achieved.
