editThe Ukrainian Institute in Germany, opened in March 2023 in Berlin, is the first foreign representation of the Ukrainian Institute. It resembles other renowned cultural institutes such as the Goethe-Institut, the Institut Français, or the Instituto Cervantes in its tasks.
Mission and Values
editThe Ukrainian Institute is dedicated to promoting intercultural cooperation and creates a space abroad for encounters with Ukrainian culture. It represents Ukrainian culture from a decolonial perspective and works closely with German and international cultural actors. The main mission of the institute is to present and promote Ukrainian culture as well as to establish and develop long-term intercultural partnerships.
Key Products and Services
edit- Cultural Projects: The institute initiates and implements projects in the fields of art, culture, and Ukrainian studies. It focuses annually on specific themes of Ukrainian history and culture, such as the Holodomor, the Revolution of Dignity, and Crimean Tatar culture and society.
- Intercultural Exchange: By organizing events, workshops, and funding programs such as "RAZOM/RHIZOM. Strengthening Regional Cultural Partnerships," the institute promotes exchange between Ukrainian, German, and international cultural creators and institutions.
- Translation Workshops: The institute offers translation workshops that support young translators in translating Ukrainian literature into German.
- Cooperations and Networks: It collaborates with renowned institutions such as universities, cultural institutions, research centers, and experts to ensure independent and evidence-based expertise.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editThe Ukrainian Institute is committed to basing its work on independent and evidence-based expertise. It advocates for the values of democracy, freedom of expression, and equality, promoting these through its projects. The work of the institute is subject to the oversight of a supervisory board consisting of 11 independent cultural and media professionals, ensuring the transparency and independence of the institute's work.
Current Activities
editSince its opening, the institute has already implemented numerous projects, including participation in the Festival of Lights in Berlin and organizing events at the Frankfurt Book Fair. It works closely with the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany and other international partners to promote and present Ukrainian culture and literature.
The Ukrainian Institute in Germany is a central place for cultural exchange and the promotion of Ukrainian culture in an international context. Through its diverse activities and projects, it contributes to strengthening intercultural relations and understanding of Ukrainian culture.
