THW-Jugend e.V. - The Youth of the Technical Relief Organization
editAbout Us
editThe THW-Jugend e.V. is the independent youth association of the Technical Relief Organization (THW), founded in 1984 in Ahrweiler. With about 17,000 children and young people in 650 youth groups across Germany, the THW-Jugend trains the future generation for technical-humanitarian aid.
Key Products and Services
edit- Training for technical-humanitarian aid: Children and young people aged 6 to 17 are trained in the same tasks that the adult operational forces of the THW perform. This includes rescue tasks, moving heavy loads, rescuing helpless people, and pumping out flooded basements[3][4].
- Leisure activities and outdoor events: The youth groups offer a variety of activities such as hiking, rafting, climbing, sports like soccer, volleyball, and basketball, as well as visits to museums. Regularly, there are camps and every three years the large federal youth camp with over 3,000 participants takes place[1][3].
- International youth work: The THW-Jugend maintains intensive international contacts and exchange programs with partner organizations in countries such as Russia, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Iceland, and others. These include youth exchanges, joint aid projects, and technical youth meetings[1][3].
Main Mission and Values
editThe main mission of the THW-Jugend is to teach children and young people "to learn to help while playing." This is achieved by imparting readiness to help, teamwork, and age-appropriate technical knowledge. The values of the THW-Jugend include openness to the world, tolerance, team spirit, and willingness to help. The community is focused on fostering friendships across borders and creating an inclusive and supportive environment[2][3].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editThe THW-Jugend places great importance on the personal development and social engagement of its members. By participating in international projects and the reconstruction of kindergartens or other youth facilities, the THW-Jugend promotes not only technical skills but also intercultural understanding and social responsibility. The regular work camps and international youth exchange programs contribute to strengthening a global community of young helpers[1][3].
The THW-Jugend offers a comprehensive and versatile platform for children and young people to develop themselves, engage in meaningful activities in their free time, and participate in a sense of community and team spirit. With its motto "to learn to help while playing," the THW-Jugend sets standards in youth work and paves the way for future generations for a committed and technically skilled future.
