Sustainable Food Systems

The Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) is an independent, non-profit research institute dedicated to promoting cutting-edge research in the field of organic agriculture. With locations in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria, as well as numerous projects in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa, FiBL is a global player in the development of sustainable agricultural practices.

FiBL works closely with farmers to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions that increase agricultural productivity without losing sight of environmental, health, and socio-economic aspects. In addition to practical research, FiBL places great importance on knowledge transfer into agricultural practice through consulting work, training, and conferences. A standout tool in their portfolio is the SMART tool, which is used to assess sustainability in agriculture.
