    Stiftung Industriedenkmalpflege und Geschichtskultur

The Stiftung Industriedenkmalpflege und Geschichtskultur is an independent foundation under private law, founded in 1995, that is committed to the preservation and conservation of high-ranking industrial monuments in North Rhine-Westphalia. It was initiated by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and RAG Aktiengesellschaft to manage the structural change in the region.

    Main Mission and Values

The main mission of the foundation is to protect industrial monuments from demolition, to research them scientifically, to make them publicly accessible and to give them a new, monument-appropriate use. It takes industrial monuments into its ownership and develops usage concepts that are appropriate and sustainable for the monuments. The foundation attaches great importance to the integration of the monuments into concepts of urban development, landscape planning, monument protection, economy and tourism.

    Key Products and Services

The foundation supports significant relics of the mining industry at several locations in the Ruhr area and in South Westphalia. The monuments under its care include former mines such as the Zeche Consolidation, Zeche Fürst Leopold, Zeche Gneisenau and many more. In addition to the Kokerei Hansa and the Ahe-Hammerwerk, historical facilities such as the Koepchenwerk and the Pumpspeicherkraftwerk are also supported.

    Sustainability Goals and Initiatives

The foundation pursues sustainable goals by removing the monuments from economic exploitation pressure and securing them in the long term through structural and repair work. It works closely with local and regional partners to give the monuments a sustainable use. Support associations support the foundation locally through voluntary work and contribute to the revitalization of the monument sites.

The foundation is financially supported by the federal government, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the RAG-Stiftung, the RAG Aktiengesellschaft and the Regionalverband Ruhr. This support enables the foundation to effectively implement its mission and preserve the industrial history of the region for future generations.
