Since its founding in 1985, it has creatively, professionally, and independently worked for the preservation of threatened historical monuments. With a unique, holistic approach, its commitment ranges from emergency rescue of endangered monuments to educational school and youth programs, as well as the nationwide event "Tag des offenen Denkmals®".

Thanks to the support of over 200,000 sponsors, the foundation has already been able to support more than 6,500 monuments with over 750 million euros throughout Germany. A special focus is on involving young people in monument preservation, for example through the school program "denkmal aktiv" and the youth building huts.

It views monument preservation as synonymous with sustainability and advocates for the integration of modern technologies such as solar panels on monuments. The foundation promotes a green corporate culture and engages in discussions about the compatibility of wind turbines and monument preservation. Through its work, the foundation helps to preserve historical buildings as resources for future generations.
