The
Stiftung Ambulantes Kinderhospiz München (AKM)
editAbout Us
editThe Stiftung Ambulantes Kinderhospiz München (AKM) is a non-profit foundation that was established in 2004 by the couple Christine and Florian Bronner. The foundation focuses on the care and support of families with incurable or life-threateningly ill children, adolescents, and young adults, as well as parents with serious illnesses in which minors live.
Key Products and Services
edit-
Children's Hospice Work: The AKM provides comprehensive support from the diagnosis of a life-threatening or life-shortening illness and beyond the possible death. This includes medical and therapeutic care for the sick children as well as psychosocial support and relief for the entire family, including siblings and parents[2][5].
-
Daily and Life Assistance: The foundation provides additional assistance such as therapy options, legal advice, psychological help, and supports social medical follow-up and the transition to the home environment[1].
-
Participation-Oriented Follow-Up Care: This initiative includes mother and father meetings, movement and relaxation offers, outdoor activities, and sibling days to strengthen families and provide preventive support[1].
-
Therapeutic Support: Direct therapeutic support, often through home visits, to assist families during their difficult time[1].
-
Crisis Service – RUF24: A crisis hotline available 24/7 for crisis situations[1].
-
Family Counseling: Support for the caregiving situation at home, psychosocial support, relief, and assistance with administrative matters[1].
Mission and Values
editThe main mission of the AKM is to be a solid support for families during the difficult time of a life-threatening illness and to provide moments of security, comfort, and normality. The foundation's guiding principle is: “Not to fill life with days, but to fill days with life!”[1][2].
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
edit-
Expansion of Services: The AKM plans to complement its outpatient service with semi-residential facilities, such as the "Haus ANNA" concept. The first Haus ANNA was opened in September 2023 in Eichendorf and offers a unique model in Germany[1].
-
Funding and Support: Since the services of the AKM are only funded by health insurance to a quarter, the foundation relies on donations. In 2022, revenues were around 5.6 million euros, with the majority going into direct family support and project work[1].
-
Social and Societal Responsibility: The AKM not only supports sick children but also their family members and is committed to child welfare by supporting families with seriously ill parents since 2016[1].
The Stiftung Ambulantes Kinderhospiz München is an important part of the social network in Bavaria, dedicated to the quality of life and well-being of families in extremely difficult situations. Through its comprehensive services and strong commitment, the AKM helps ensure that families in need are not left alone.
