editThe Hamburger Stiftung Asien-Brücke was founded in spring 2005 by the Senate and the Bürgerschaft of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The foundation's headquarters is located in Hamburg.
Mission and Values
editThe main mission of the foundation is to support the development work carried out in Hamburg on a personal or institutional level in Asia, to establish it on a sustainable basis, and to raise public awareness of it. The foundation advocates for sustainable development in Asian countries and promotes projects initiated by Hamburg citizens and institutions.
Focus Areas and Activities
edit- Living Conditions and Education: The foundation focuses on improving the living conditions and education of people in Asia.
- Specialists and Executives: It supports the qualification of specialists and executives.
- Knowledge and Experience Exchange: Another focus is the exchange of knowledge and experience with partners in Asia.
- Environmental Protection: Promoting environmental protection is also a central concern.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editThe foundation works closely with the development policy and institutional network of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. It identifies projects worthy of funding, increases attention to issues of development cooperation in Hamburg, and promotes dialogue between associations and institutions in Asia and Hamburg.
Organization and Leadership
editThe board of the foundation consists of experienced experts:
- Prof. Dr. Patrick Köllner as chairman, who is also vice president of the Leibniz Institute for Global and Regional Studies (GIGA) and director of the GIGA Institute for Asian Studies.
- Almut Rößner, managing board member of the OAV - German Asia-Pacific Business Association.
- Gunnar Geyer, organizational consultant in Austria.
The foundation council, which advises and supervises the board, includes representatives from Hamburg politics, Asia experts, development aid specialists, and representatives of donors.
Promotion of Projects
editThe foundation promotes projects that are based in Hamburg or have a strong connection to Hamburg. Interested parties can submit proposals and applications for projects worthy of funding that must comply with the foundation's guidelines.
