Skateistan

Skateistan is an award-winning non-governmental organization leading a global movement in skateboarding and creative learning. With a bold, inclusive, and playful approach, Skateistan creates spaces worldwide where young people can learn, play, and shape their futures. The organization operates educational facilities with state-of-the-art skateparks in Afghanistan, South Africa, and Cambodia, providing children from all walks of life the opportunity to thrive.

Skateistan offers a variety of programs focused on skateboarding and education. These programs are specifically designed to equip children aged 5 to 17, particularly girls, with valuable life skills that go beyond traditional classroom learning. The organization runs schools in Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif, and Bamyan in Afghanistan, as well as in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Additionally, Skateistan supports over 800 social skate projects worldwide through the Goodpush program, which provides training and funding opportunities.

The mission of Skateistan is to bring the world on board and promote an inclusive, diverse, and resilient community. The organization is particularly committed to vulnerable, BIPOC, and migrant communities and strives to promote autonomy and equality. Skateistan believes that every person, regardless of spiritual beliefs, country of birth, race, gender, sexual orientation, or skate style, is equal.

Skateistan is committed to social sustainability by using education and sports as a means to promote social cohesion and personal development. The organization works to expand access to sports like skateboarding and promotes the development of skateboarding infrastructures worldwide. Through partnerships with local organizations and communities, Skateistan supports the creation of safe and inclusive public spaces.

With over 40 locations worldwide, Skateistan reaches more than 6,000 participants weekly, with 52% of participants identified as girls or young women. The organization aims to become the most recognized cultural force in skateboarding and continuously advocates for the support and promotion of projects addressing issues such as racial justice and gender equality.
