About Us

The Stiftung Allianz für Entwicklung und Klima is an initiative platform that advocates for the simultaneous promotion of global sustainable development and international climate protection. Founded in 2020 at the initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and with the support of the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), the foundation is based in Frankfurt am Main and has its office in Berlin.

Mission and Values

The main mission of the foundation is to connect sustainable development and global climate protection. It is committed to mobilizing additional resources for sustainable development and raising awareness for voluntary compensation of greenhouse gas emissions through high-quality climate protection projects in countries of the Global South. The foundation aligns itself with the goals of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement of the United Nations, aiming to support the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Agreement.

Consulting and Networking: The foundation offers expert consulting and networking opportunities for companies, organizations, and institutions to assist them in selecting and financing high-quality climate protection projects in countries of the Global South.
Educational and Event Offerings: It regularly publishes studies, factsheets, and guidelines and offers practical workshops, specialist seminars, and conferences. Additionally, there is the Academy, a training format that provides practical assistance on the voluntary carbon market.
Project Development: The foundation enables the development of individual development and climate protection projects in collaboration with providers of the voluntary CO₂ compensation market.
Certification: It awards the SDGold seal to organizations committed to sustainable development to promote transparent and credible communication.

Sustainability Goals and Initiatives

Climate Protection Projects: The foundation promotes climate protection projects that sequester greenhouse gases or reduce emissions, foster economic and technological progress, protect the environment and biodiversity, and improve the living conditions of people on the ground.
2030 Agenda and Paris Climate Agreement: The foundation's activities contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Climate Agreement, particularly by promoting projects that contribute to renewable energy supply, job creation, food security, or forest protection.
Mobilization of Financial Resources: The foundation mobilizes additional resources for the promotion of sustainable development and climate protection and supports the political recognition of emission compensation that goes beyond the commitments of Paris.

Successes and Commitment

Over 1,500 Supporters: The alliance already counts over 1,500 supporters, including large companies, medium-sized firms, state administrations, municipalities, sports clubs, civil society organizations, and private individuals.
CO₂ Compensation: Since the founding of the alliance in 2018, around 26 million tons of CO₂ have been compensated, with more than 10 million tons in 2022 alone.
Education and Communication: The foundation actively advocates for education for sustainable development, including through the podcast Grad Global, "Weltretterwissen" videos, and the comic series "Meine Entwicklung – unser Klima!".

The Stiftung Allianz für Entwicklung und Klima is a central platform for the exchange of experiences, the consolidation and dissemination of knowledge, and the networking of companies and organizations committed to sustainable development and global climate protection. Through its comprehensive activities and initiatives, the foundation makes a significant contribution to achieving the global sustainability goals.
