Silent Green

The silent green Kulturquartier is a unique event venue and independent project that has been located in the historic premises of the former crematorium in Berlin-Wedding since 2013. This cultural quarter sees itself as a protected space where people can think, research, and experiment.

• Event Spaces: The silent green offers a variety of event spaces, including the historic dome hall, the underground concrete hall, and the studio house with five additional multipurpose rooms. These spaces are used for concerts, readings, film screenings, conferences, seminars, and workshops[1][2][3].
• Creative Infrastructure: On 6000 square meters, the cultural campus brings together around 100 creative and creative industry professionals, including institutions such as Musicboard Berlin, K7 Label, Harun Farocki Institute, and Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art e.V.[1][2].
• Catering: The in-house restaurant, MARS | Café & Bar, offers a quiet place for informal exchange between tenants, the audience, and local residents[1][2].

The silent green is committed to creating a platform for interdisciplinary and transformative work. It promotes the emergence of new, hybrid forms by overcoming the boundaries of individual artistic disciplines. Diversity and openness to new formats are central values that enable exchange and experimentation between genres and the audience[1][2].

The silent green aims to establish a sustainable creative infrastructure in Wedding that is firmly rooted in the neighborhood while also being a cultural attraction beyond Berlin. All revenues go directly into the maintenance of the site and the production of artistic and cultural projects. The monument-compliant renovation of the former crematorium was carried out in close coordination with the monument protection authorities to preserve the historical substance[1][2][3].

• Film Field Research: A center for moving image art that focuses on the forms and edges of documentary storytelling, with exhibition projects, screenings, and discursive formats. An upcoming project is the group exhibition "UnNatural Encounters" in cooperation with the European Media Art Platform and transmediale[1][2].
• Guided Tours: Historical tours of the former crematorium that illuminate the exciting history of the site and its transformation into the silent green[1][2].

The silent green Kulturquartier is a vibrant place of creative encounter and participation that creates networks and communication spaces between practice and theory, research and application, production and presentation. It is a centerpiece of the cultural landscape of Berlin and beyond.
