About Silbernetz e.V.
editSilbernetz e.V. is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to combating loneliness in old age since its founding in 2014 in Berlin. With an innovative three-tiered offering, Silbernetz provides support to older people across Germany to overcome isolation and make new social contacts.
Key Offerings
editThe heart of Silbernetz is the Silbertelefon, a free hotline that is available 24/7. Here, older people can simply talk without being in a crisis. This offering is complemented by Silbernetz-Friendships, where volunteers regularly call seniors to build a reliable and friendly connection. The Silberinfo also provides information on further offerings for older people to promote their participation in social life.
Mission and Values
editThe mission of Silbernetz is clear: No one should be lonely in old age. The organization is committed to helping older people reconnect with others so they can lead a more active and fulfilling life. Silbernetz embraces a multicultural orientation and promotes communication between generations. The work of the organization is supported by a dedicated team of permanent and over 300 volunteer staff members from all parts of the population and age groups.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editSilbernetz is actively engaged in promoting digital participation for older people. With the Information Phone – Digital Participation for Older People as part of the SMART City Strategy-Berlin, a bridge to the digital world is being created. This initiative aims to facilitate access to digital technologies for older people and thus support their social integration.
Furthermore, Silbernetz is committed to combating ageism, that is, discrimination based on age. With campaigns like “Live 7 Years Longer” and projects like “Making Ageism Visible, Creating Change!” awareness of age discrimination is raised, and societal change is sought.
Awards and Recognition
editSilbernetz has been recognized multiple times for its outstanding work. Honors include the “Impact of Diversity” Award 2024 in the category of Age Inclusion and the “Beyond Crisis” award from the initiative Germany – Land of Ideas in 2020. These awards underscore the significance and positive impact of Silbernetz on society.
Silbernetz e.V. is a shining example of how engagement and innovative approaches can improve the quality of life for older people and effectively combat loneliness in old age. The organization invites you to be part of this important mission, whether through volunteer work or donations, to continue and expand this valuable work.
