Servicestelle Jugendbeteiligung

The Servicestelle Jugendbeteiligung (SJB) is a unique organization that has been committed to the comprehensive participation of young people in Germany since its founding in 2001 by the Stiftung Demokratische Jugend and with the support of the Federal Ministry of Youth.

The main mission of the SJB is to promote youth participation at all levels and empower young people to actively and independently participate in social and political life. The focus is on creating a youth-friendly society in which young people can represent their interests and needs themselves. The SJB stands for effective participation, engagement, and the promotion of a vibrant and future-oriented democracy[2].

• Infoscout Network: The SJB operates a network where engaged young people provide each other access to information and participation opportunities and connect at events[1].
• Regional Service Points: In cities and municipalities, regional service points work to establish municipal participation structures for young people and to raise awareness among adult structures regarding the concerns of young people[1].
• Qualification Offers: The SJB offers seminars and workshops on topics such as event moderation, project management, and other relevant skills to support young people in their project work[1].
• Project Development Lab: An innovative lab that helps young people develop their own projects by providing tools and methods such as Design Thinking. This takes place in public spaces, schools, and youth facilities[3].

The SJB is committed to a variety of sustainable and inclusive initiatives:

• Mission Inclusion: A nationwide network that addresses diversity and inclusion and connects young people[2].
• Academy for Children and Youth Parliaments: The SJB networks, qualifies, and supports children and youth parliaments to empower young people in political processes[2].
• Student Budget: A project where students decide on their own budget in a democratic process and thus shape their school[2].
• Digital Engagement: The SJB connects the opportunities of digital tools with participation processes to empower young people online as well[2].

The SJB is a registered non-profit association and works nationwide. It unites over 1200 engaged young people in more than twelve regional service points and supports municipalities in implementing innovative approaches to youth participation[1][2].
