RWI - Leibniz Institute for Economic Research

The RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research is a leading center for scientific research and evidence-based policy advice in Germany. As a member of the Leibniz Association, RWI provides in-depth analyses of economic developments and their causes, supports policymakers and businesses in decision-making, and promotes public understanding of economic relationships.

RWI is organized into five main departments: "Climate Change and Development," "Labor Markets, Education, Population," "Health Economics," "Environment and Resources," and "Macroeconomics and Public Finance." These departments cover a wide range of topics, from individual to global economic issues. They are complemented by specialized research groups such as "Sustainability and Governance" and "Migration and Integration." The Research Data Center Ruhr (FDZ) also provides valuable data resources for empirical analyses.

The mission of RWI is to contribute to solving societal challenges through scientifically based research and advice. For example, it organizes the Leibniz Open Science Day, which focuses on openness and transparency in the economic and social sciences. Additionally, the institute participates in discussions about a research data law in Germany to improve access to research data and strengthen the scientific evidence base.
