The Rhein-Donau-Stiftung e.V. (RDS) is a private initiative that, since its founding in 1977 in Munich and later consolidation in Cologne, is dedicated to promoting educational and development projects for disadvantaged people both domestically and abroad.

The RDS focuses on implementing educational projects aimed at empowering people, especially women and youth, to become actors in their own development. This includes school support, technical, medical, and agricultural training, as well as support for entrepreneurship[5].

The mission of the RDS is to create a world where people work with dignity, youth realize their dreams, and children can live carefree. The principle of "help for self-help" and the trusting collaboration with local partners on the ground are central values of the organization. The RDS works hand in hand with the local people to enable social progress and promote long-term, sustainable developments[1][2].

The RDS is committed to a variety of sustainability goals, including improving living conditions through education and vocational training, promoting healthcare in rural areas, and combating the effects of climate change. Projects in agriculture and the environment are also an integral part of the RDS's work. Currently, the organization is active in countries such as Guatemala, Colombia, Peru, Uganda, and Kenya[1][2][4].

To ensure the quality of the projects and the proper use of donations, all projects are carefully reviewed by the RDS project team and, in the case of projects funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), additionally by external consultants. During the project duration, implementation is ensured through regular contact with local partners and checks. Thanks to the interest income from the association's assets and support from other foundations, 92 percent of donations go directly into project work[2].

The Rhein-Donau-Stiftung e.V. has conducted over 80 projects in more than 20 countries since its founding, supporting around 65,000 people. Its work is characterized by long-term collaboration, trusting partnerships, and unwavering commitment to promoting education and self-help.
