    About RESQSHIP e.V.

RESQSHIP e.V. is a German non-governmental organization (NGO) that was founded in June 2017 by a group of people who met during a search and rescue mission by Sea-Watch. The headquarters of the association is located in Hamburg, with additional local groups in Freiburg, Mainz, and Augsburg.

    Our Mission and Values

The main mission of RESQSHIP e.V. is to prevent the deaths of people in the Mediterranean Sea. We are committed to ensuring that no one has to drown or die of thirst while fleeing across the Mediterranean. Our goal is to respect the dignity and lives of all people equally.

    • Saving Lives: We conduct humanitarian rescue operations in the central Mediterranean to help people in distress at sea. With our motor sailboat Nadir, which has been in operation since spring 2021, we observe, document, and clarify emergencies and provide assistance when other ships are not available[2][3][4].

    • Creating Understanding and Awareness: Through targeted public relations work, we draw attention to the catastrophic situation of people fleeing beyond European borders. We document human rights violations and urge EU states to fulfill their legal obligations[2][4].

    • Justice: We work to raise awareness in society and politics about the connections of global migration movements. We demand sustainable solutions at the political level, especially the fight against the causes of flight and safe, legal escape routes for people in need[2][4].

    Our Activities

    • Operations with the Ship Nadir: Since 2021, we have been using the 19-meter-long motor sailboat Nadir for our missions. In 2021, we were involved in the rescue of about 800 refugees, and in the following years, we conducted numerous other rescue operations, including the rescue of 47 people from an overcrowded steel boat and 52 people from a wooden boat near Lampedusa[3].

    • Networking and Partnerships: RESQSHIP e.V. works closely with other NGOs to support civil sea rescue and make political demands. We have published joint statements and declarations with other aid organizations to highlight the threats to civil sea rescue and the necessity of adhering to international maritime law[2][4].

    Our Team and Funding

The association consists of about 25 members and numerous volunteers. Everyone is welcome to support the diverse tasks of the association. RESQSHIP e.V. is funded exclusively through private donations and promotes the long-term and sustainable planning of its work through regular financial support from sponsoring members[2][4].

    Sustainability Goals and Initiatives

    • Long-term Planning: Through regular donations and sponsorship memberships, we can plan our work in a long-term and sustainable manner.

    • Public Relations: We organize various events and publications to raise awareness of the situation of people on the run and to fight for the respect of human rights.

    • Political Demands: We advocate for the adherence to international maritime law and human rights and urge political institutions to act responsibly and create safe escape routes.

RESQSHIP e.V. is a passionate and dedicated team that tirelessly advocates for the lives and dignity of people on the run. With your support, we can continue to help those in need and fight for a fairer world.
