Region Syddanmark
The
The Region of Southern Denmark (Region Syddanmark) is one of the five administrative regions of Denmark, which has existed since the comprehensive administrative reform on January 1, 2007. It unites the four former counties of Fyn, Ribe, Southern Jutland and the southern part of Vejle and, with around 1.2 million inhabitants and an area of 12,256 km², represents one of the most important regions in Denmark.
Core tasks and services
editThe main focus of the Region of Southern Denmark is on the operation and development of the regional healthcare system. With around 25,000 employees, it is also the largest employer in the region. The region is responsible for the operation of hospitals, psychiatric care and social services, especially for children and adults with special needs. Outstanding facilities include the Odense University Hospital, one of the most modern hospitals in Scandinavia with specializations in cardiovascular diseases, cancer treatment and microsurgery.
In addition to healthcare, the region is also responsible for regional development. This includes the planning of infrastructure, the environmental remediation of contaminated sites, water protection and the promotion of cross-border cooperation with Germany and other European partners. The region relies heavily on openness, dialogue and active citizen participation as the basis for cooperation with municipalities, companies and educational institutions.
Mission and Values
editThe Region of Southern Denmark pursues the mission of offering first-class and accessible healthcare while ensuring sustainable and balanced development of the region. Values such as transparency, cooperation and proximity to citizens characterize the region's actions. A central goal is to continuously improve the quality of life of citizens through innovative and patient-oriented solutions.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editSustainability is the focus of regional development. The region is committed to environmentally friendly use of resources, for example through measures for soil and water remediation. In the healthcare sector, the promotion of nearby "Nærhospitaler" (local hospitals), such as the one in Middelfart, improves accessibility and efficiency, which should also reduce the ecological footprint.
In addition, the region is actively committed to the well-being of its employees, in particular through the "TAL i Syd" program, which strengthens the mental health and working environment of managers. Voluntary engagement is also recognized and promoted in order to strengthen social competence and cohesion in the community.
Significance and Networking
editWith an annual budget of around 25 billion Danish kroner, the Region of Southern Denmark is an economic heavyweight, comparable in size to the country's largest industrial companies. The region has a dynamic economy with world-renowned companies such as LEGO, Danfoss and Linak as well as important educational and research institutions, including the University of Southern Denmark.
Geographically located as the "Gateway to Europe", the region is an important link between Denmark and the European mainland. The excellent networking at a political, economic and social level enables the region to realize forward-looking projects and to function as an innovative engine for sustainable development.
The Region of Southern Denmark is thus an example of modern, citizen-oriented and sustainable administrative action that focuses on the health, social well-being and sustainable development of its population.
