editThe Working Group Women's Health in Medicine, Psychotherapy and Society e.V. (AKF) is the largest independent association of organizations and professionals dedicated to women's health in Germany. Founded in 1993 by Claudia Czerwinski, Carol Hagemann-White, Barbara Ehret, Maria Krieger, Ingrid Olbricht, Brigitte Dorst, and Elisabeth Trube-Becker, the AKF is based in Berlin.

editThe AKF brings together a wide range of professional groups, including midwives, female doctors, psychologists, educators, alternative practitioners, and professionals in nursing. The association represents the interests of women as patients, experts, and citizens and advocates for a gender-sensitive, needs-based healthcare system.
- Information Materials and Awareness-Raising: The AKF creates and disseminates information materials on various topics such as HPV vaccination, IGeL services, hormone therapy, normal birth, mental health of women and children affected by violence, maternity protection, cesarean section, and avoidance of hormonally active chemicals.
- Position Papers and Statements: Position papers and statements on current women's health issues are regularly drafted and published.
- Annual Conferences and Professional Events: The AKF organizes annual conferences, professional conferences on gynecology, and other professional events to promote education and information.
- Advocacy: The association collaborates with authorities at the municipal and national levels and sends expert professionals to participate in the development of medical guidelines and national care and treatment standards.
Mission and Values
editThe main mission of the AKF is to promote and support women's health responsibility. The association advocates for women's self-determination, a gender- and needs-based, science-based healthcare system and policy, as well as for evidence-based health information. Another focus is on the informed participation of women in all decisions affecting their health.
Sustainability Goals and Initiatives
editThe AKF is involved in various initiatives to achieve sustainable improvements in women's health:
- Round Table "Life Phase Becoming Parents": Founded in 2006 to combat the pathologization and medicalization of pregnancy and childbirth.
- National Health Goals: The AKF has played a significant role in the development of the national health goal "Health Around Birth," which was published in February 2017.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: The association works interdisciplinary to clarify the influences affecting women's health and promotes the archiving of publications from relevant fields.
Funding
editThe AKF is primarily funded by membership fees and private donations. Additionally, the association receives project-related funds from public authorities, statutory health insurance companies, and non-profit women-oriented foundations and welfare associations[1][2][3].
