Protect the Planet

Protect the Planet is a non-profit organization founded in 2015 on the initiative of Dorothea Sick-Thies, filmmaker Carl-A. Fechner, and networker Markus Gohr. Based in Munich and Starnberg, the team is committed daily to protecting the Earth and preserving a livable environment for current and future generations.

The main mission of Protect the Planet is to prevent the climate catastrophe and to make the planet livable and just. The organization advocates for responsible parties in politics and business to engage in appropriate climate protection by enforcing climate policy progress through campaigns, projects, and, if necessary, climate lawsuits. Protect the Planet embodies the values of humanity, justice, democracy, and sustainability and is independent and non-partisan[2][3][5].

Protect the Planet organizes a variety of events to promote climate education and awareness in the general public. These include lecture series, excursions, panel discussions, and tours, which take place both on-site and online via Zoom and YouTube. These events aim to convey new insights into the climate crisis and possible solutions in an understandable way and to change participants' behavior to reduce greenhouse gas emissions[1][4].

A central goal of Protect the Planet is to promote a peaceful and sustainable energy transition. The organization demands a 100% climate-neutral way of living and doing business and opposes the lobbying of fossil and nuclear energy. Protect the Planet connects NGOs, politics, business, and civil society to jointly limit climate change.

Protect the Planet has already carried out several successful initiatives, including the first European climate lawsuit "People’s Climate Case" in 2018 and the successful Federal Constitutional Complaint for climate protection in 2021. Additionally, the organization participated in successful citizen votes and the mobilization campaign "Get Out of Coal," which led to the early shutdown of the Munich-Nord coal power plant[2][5].

With its dedicated approach and comprehensive activities, Protect the Planet makes a significant contribution to climate protection and the sustainable shaping of our future.
