Papatya

Papatya is an anonymous crisis facility that specializes in the protection and counseling of girls and young women aged 13 to 21 who are threatened by domestic violence, forced marriage, and abduction. With a special focus on individuals with migration and refugee backgrounds, Papatya provides a safe haven and comprehensive support in crisis situations.

Papatya offers a variety of services, including an anonymous crisis center that provides protection and accommodation for up to eight girls and young women. Additionally, the online counseling service SIBEL is an important resource that offers anonymous advice on issues such as domestic violence, forced marriage, and family control. These counseling services are available not only to the affected individuals but also to LGBTI*Q persons, couples who are not allowed to be together, as well as professionals and private helpers.

The main mission of Papatya is to provide protection and support to girls and young women in distress and to help them lead an independent life. Papatya is committed to upholding human rights and promoting gender equality. The organization works closely with youth welfare offices and other government agencies to find individual solutions for each resident.

Papatya is actively engaged in various projects aimed at improving protection against domestic violence, honor-based violence, forced marriage, and abduction. Since 1997, Papatya has been involved in improving the DAPHNE programs of the European Community, which provide protection and assistance to target groups within the EU. The organization cooperates with NGOs across Europe to ensure counseling and protection for girls and women with migration and refugee backgrounds.

Current projects of Papatya include "FM-Out!", which provides materials for the prevention and support of forced marriage, and "SHEROES", which addresses honor-based violence. Other initiatives include raising awareness of human rights as part of language education and supporting girls and women affected by honor-based violence.

Papatya is funded by the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family, as well as the Berlin Senate Department for Health, Care, and Equality. The organization relies on donations to continue its work and to finance projects that cannot be funded otherwise.
