OVAL Germany GmbH

OVAL is an international community project in the field of information security that aims to promote open and publicly accessible security content and to standardize the exchange of this information between different security tools and services. The initiative is coordinated by The MITRE Corporation and is supported by the Cybersecurity and Communications Division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

• OVAL Language: A standardized language for representing system information, analyzing system states (such as vulnerabilities, configurations, patch states), and reporting results.
• OVAL Repository: A central repository hosted by The MITRE Corporation where OVAL definitions are stored and shared. These definitions help identify software vulnerabilities, configuration issues, or patches on systems.

OVAL's main mission is to provide a common language for assessing and reporting the system state of computers. This promotes collaboration and the exchange of security information within the entire security community. OVAL places great emphasis on openness, standardization and collaboration to improve the security of IT systems.

OVAL focuses on the long-term promotion of security standards and supporting the community by providing open and standardized security content. There are no specific sustainability goals in the classic sense, but the continuous development and maintenance of the OVAL language and repository contribute to the sustainable improvement of IT security.

OVAL is a central component of global security initiatives, which, through its open and standardized language, helps to increase the security of IT systems. Through the participation of a broad community of security experts and the support of renowned organizations, OVAL sets standards for the assessment and reporting of system states.
