Naturefund e. V.

Naturefund e.V. is a non-profit nature conservation organization that has been dedicated to the protection and preservation of natural habitats worldwide since its founding in 2003. The main mission of Naturefund is to purchase land to preserve habitats for a diverse range of animal and plant life and to maintain and restore intact ecosystems[2].

Naturefund focuses on the purchase of meadows, forests, and wetlands to protect them from human intervention and to ensure that nature can develop undisturbed in the long term. An important aspect of their work is reforestation and afforestation, especially in light of climate change. Over 100,000 trees have already been planted in Europe and more in tropical regions such as Bolivia and Madagascar[1][2].

Naturefund is actively committed to climate protection by purchasing and reforesting forests. These measures not only serve to protect biodiversity but also to reduce carbon emissions, as forests, peatlands, and grasslands are important carbon sinks. The organization is also working to create protected areas to support the EU Biodiversity Strategy's goal of ten percent strictly protected nature in member states by 2030[2].

In addition to international projects, such as reforestation in the Tunari National Park in Bolivia and in Madagascar, Naturefund is also active in the region around Wiesbaden. Here, projects are being carried out to preserve species-rich traditional orchards and to protect the Aesculapian snake in Wiesbaden-Frauenstein[1].

Naturefund works closely with local partners to ensure that conservation measures are successful in the long term. The organization is supported by numerous donors who have already contributed to securing 1.5 million square meters of land for nature[2].

Through its comprehensive efforts, Naturefund makes an important contribution to the preservation of biodiversity, climate protection, and the promotion of sustainable ecosystems, both locally and globally.
