Modus – Zentrum für angewandte Deradikalisierungsforschung gGmbH

The modus | zad, or Center for Applied Deradicalization Research, is a unique institution dedicated to practical research and the prevention of extremism. Our goal is to improve societal responsiveness to new developments in extremist scenes and among extremist actors.

• Research and Evaluation: We conduct rigorous empirical social research to examine the field of (de-)radicalization. Our process-oriented evaluations support practical offerings in achieving their objectives.
• Monitoring and Trend Analysis: Through a combination of automated quantitative methods for data collection and sound qualitative analysis, we provide a basis for action for politics and civil society.
• Practical and Network Projects: We develop and test new practical methods and connect prevention actors to quickly disseminate innovations. Examples include projects like "Der Fabulant" – a portal for education against conspiracy narratives – and the "Extremism and Gaming Research Network (EGRN)".

The main mission of modus | zad is to contribute to the prevention of extremism through research, evaluation, and practical projects. We advocate for improved societal responsiveness to new developments in extremist scenes and actors. Our values are based on the networking of science, business, and other societal actors to promote innovations for extremism prevention and deradicalization.

• Long-term Prevention: We are working to develop long-term solutions for the prevention of extremism by conducting in-depth analyses and evaluations.
• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: By networking various actors from science, politics, and civil society, we promote interdisciplinary collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and methods.
• Innovative Projects: We initiate and support innovative projects aimed at combating extremism in various contexts, such as in social media and the gaming sector.

modus | zad is thus a central actor in the research and prevention of extremism, making a significant contribution to improving societal security through its comprehensive and practical approaches.
