About Lotta Svärd Säätiö

The Lotta Svärd Säätiö is a Finnish foundation that builds on the values and work of the historical Lotta Svärd organization. This organization played a significant role in Finnish history by providing voluntary aid services during war and peacetime.

Today, the foundation focuses on supporting and rehabilitating the remaining members of the Lotta Svärd organization, the so-called Lottas and Junior Lottas. It provides them with financial support, rehabilitation measures and recreational opportunities.

In addition, the Lotta Svärd Säätiö is committed to promoting the voluntary commitment of women in national defense and strengthening civil society. It awards scholarships and supports projects that preserve and pass on knowledge about the history of the Lotta Svärd organization.

An important part of the foundation's work is the Lottamuseum in Tuusula. The museum documents the history of the Lotta Svärd organization and the role of women in Finnish society. It offers exhibitions, events and educational programs for visitors of all ages. The museum also includes the Lottakanttiini, a popular café that serves traditional Finnish food and pastries.

The foundation also owns rental apartments in the Helsinki region, the income from which is used to finance its charitable activities.

The Lotta Svärd Säätiö is committed to preserving the cultural heritage and passing on the values of the Lotta Svärd organization. It works closely with the Suomen Lottaperinneliitto ry (Finnish Association of Lotta Heritage) to honor the memory of the Lottas and preserve their legacy for future generations. Since 2007, the foundation has annually appointed the "Lotta of the Year" to honor women who, in the spirit of the Lotta Svärd organization, are committed to the well-being of others.
