editThe Library Association of Saxony, part of the German Library Association, is a non-profit association that advocates for the interests of more than 450 public and 43 scientific libraries in the Free State of Saxony. With over 200 members, the association is one of the fourth largest state associations in Germany and represents one of the densest and best library networks in Germany.
Key products and services
edit- Education and Culture: The association supports libraries in their role as central educational institutions that impart knowledge and culture. This includes the organisation of libraries-wide events, such as the Literaturforum Bibliothek, which offers readings for children, young people and adults.
- Consultation and training: The association offers individual advice for libraries and promotes the training of library staff. The Sächsische Landesfachstelle für Bibliotheken, which has been integrated since 2022, serves as a professional competence, consultancy and training centre.
- Media and information competence: The association advocates the promotion of media and information competence and supports libraries in the provision of digital media and the development of digital information infrastructures.[1]

Sustainability goals and initiatives
edit- The association advocates stable funding for libraries to ensure their long-term sustainability, supported by institutional support from the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism.
- Digital Transformation: The association promotes the digital transformation of libraries by supporting the development of digital information infrastructures and the provision of digital media.
- Cultural and educational partnerships: By organizing events and collaborating with other cultural and educational institutions, such as the Saxon Literature Council and the Saxon Ministry of Culture, the association strengthens the cultural and educational importance of libraries.
Current initiatives
edit- Saxon Library Prize: The association awards the Saxon Library Prize annually to honor outstanding achievements of libraries in Saxony. In 2024, the prize was awarded to the Stadtbibliothek Wurzen.
- Perspective paper "Public libraries in Saxony 2030": Together with the Saxon Minister of Culture and the Director General of the SLUB, the Association has presented a perspective paper outlining the future development plans and fields of action for public libraries in Saxony by 2030.
The Library Association of Saxony plays a central role in the Saxon library landscape by representing the interests of libraries, promoting their development and underlining their importance for society.
