About Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH
editThe Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and development of cultural infrastructure in Berlin. With a special focus on the independent scene, KRB supports artists and cultural institutions by providing and developing workspaces and cultural locations. Key projects include the Alte Münze, the Uferhallen, and the Modellfläche TXL, which serves as a sustainable cultural platform at the former Tegel Airport.
The main mission of the Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH is to preserve and promote the cultural diversity of Berlin by providing artists with the necessary resources and spaces to realize their creative visions. The organization works closely with the administration, the real estate industry, and other cultural stakeholders to develop innovative usage concepts and sustainably shape the cultural landscape of Berlin.
A central concern of KRB is sustainability. Through projects like the Kulturkataster, which provides a transparent overview of existing and threatened cultural sites, KRB contributes to the long-term security and development of cultural infrastructure. The organization is also involved in the renovation and preparation of spaces for artistic uses to meet the spatial needs of the independent scene.
The Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH also advocates for the creation of an inclusive and accessible cultural environment that supports artists from all disciplines. Through the workspace program of the state of Berlin, subsidized artistic workspaces are rented to freelance artists to provide them with a stable basis for their creative work.
Despite challenges such as the impending cuts by the Berlin coalition committee, the Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH remains an indispensable pillar of the city's creative infrastructure. With a dedicated team and a clear vision for the future, KRB continuously works to strengthen and preserve the cultural diversity of Berlin.
